Potton Building Surveys

Don’t buy a problem, buy a survey

We are independent chartered surveyors and will offer you advice on your property problems and can carry out a building survey on your prospective purchase; whether it is residential or for business use.

Why we always recommend having an independent building survey

Always have an independent building survey, as this will pinpoint any property problems. Caveat emptor means buyer beware and is why you need to have a building survey to find out if there are any problems within the property; the estate agent certainly will not advise you of any.

Remember the independent building Surveyor that you employ will be the only person working for you with your interests at heart.

History of Potton

Like many places in England, the Bedfordshire town of Potton has an extensive and fascinating history behind it.

In 1237 Potton was actually divided by inheritance, into four manors. These four manors were; Potton Burdetts, Potton Rectoria, Potton Regis and Potton Much Manured. The four manors were eventually recombined between 1544 and 1637.

History of Potton’s buildings

Potton used to be an old market town, meaning there are many old and fascinating buildings in the area. These buildings have timber frames, which are known to have stemmed from the late Medieval/ early Tudor times.

The great fire of Potton

One of the most fascinating events that has occurred in the town of Potton is the ‘Great fire of Potton’, that took place in 1783. The fire started in a field, caused by a clover stack owned by a local farmer. The fire ruined King Street and half of the Market Square.

The fire meant that many houses had to be rebuilt, hence the many Georgian buildings in the town.
