About Woburn
Woburn is a pretty village (although it was described in the Domesday Book as a small hamlet) with some specialist shops and many tourist shops. The village hosts both a farmers market and antiques and collectors fair once a month.
In 1724 a fire swept through Woburn, destroying the fronts of buildings along Bedford Street, George Street and Leighton Street which were restored to what you see today as Georgian properties however most of the buildings are medieval behind the Georgian facades. Many of these buildings are listed preserving the beauty of the village.
If you are looking for a place to eat then Woburn is exceptionally catered for from cafes on the market square and pubs that are food-led to Michelin star restaurant Paris House.
Woburn Abbey
Woburn is home to the spectacularly grand Woburn Abbey and Gardens where you can explore the 3,000 acre deer park and then enjoy afternoon tea in the Duchess Tea Room followed by an overnight stay at Woburn Hotel. The Sculpture Gallery is an idyllic location for a dream wedding with many happy couples having been photographed alongside the picturesque Camellia Lake if our unpredictable British weather allows!
Woburn Abbey was founded in 1145 by Hugh de Bolebec as a monastery for the monks of Fountains Abbey. Since then esteemed architects such as Henry Flitcroft, Henry Holland and Sir Jeffry Wyatville have also added their design flair to the estate. Over the years the award winning Woburn Abbey gardens have also seen many changes.
Woburn Safari Park
Woburn is also well known for the popular family attraction Woburn Safari Park where you can drive through a safari adventure meeting animals such as bison, zebra, rhino, buffalo, giraffes, wolves, tigers and lions; remember to keep your windows closed especially whilst driving past the cheeky monkeys!
Center Parcs
New to Woburn is Center Parcs which opened in 2014 and is extremely popular due to its proximity to the mighty population of London and its accessibility from the M1.
