Gunn’s bakery is very well known locally selling delicious produce including the traditional Bedfordshire pie – the Bedfordshire Clanger, which is a pasty that has a savoury meat filling at one end and a fruity filling at the other end that the workers used to take into the fields as they worked.

Sandy is the headquarters of the RSPB at The Lodge, and the local scenery provides an amazing opportunities and experiences for bird watchers and walkers, with 100 acres of woodlands and gardens to explore, and observe the amazing wildlife that Sandy has to offer.
History of Sandy
Sandy is full of history, and dates as far back as the Iron Age. A hill fort, which is now known as Caesar’s Camp used to be a Roman settlement, meaning Roman artefacts found in the area are now on display at the town council offices.
St. Swithun’s church is in fact the burial place of Sir Frederick Liddell (whose sister provided some inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland). There is also a memorial in the church dedicated to the famous Sir Robert Peel, a former British Prime Minister.
Places to visit near Sandy
A couple of miles away from Sandy is Old Warden, where classic planes such as Sopwith Camel and Spitfires are houses. Flying events are held throughout the year.
