The White Hart BiggleswadePubs in Biggleswade

The town has many interesting buildings including its old pubs (some of which we have surveyed) such as The White Hart believed to be one of the oldest buildings in the town. The Great Fire of Biggleswade was devastating to the town. It started on 16 June 1785 in The Crown Inn and quickly spread to St Andrew’s Street, Holme Lane and Langford Lane (now Hitchin Street) before moving onto Back Street, the Market Square, Foundry Lane and Bonds Lane. The damage was extensive destroying over 100 houses and making many homeless.

Biggleswade Town Centre

The town centre has an attractive market square with cafes and restaurants mixing both local and national chains. The work to the Stratton Street railway bridge caused chaos to businesses in the town as access to the town centre was limited during the period of works. However, works were much needed as the last major bridge works were in 1952.
